The Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA), Singapore Food Agency (SFA) and MOE said in a joint statement on Oct 27 that Deli Hub Catering's food business operations are suspended until further notice. As at Oct 26, 51 pupils and two employees at MOE Kindergarten @ Springdale (Sengkang) and MOE Kindergarten @ Gongshang (Tampines) had developed gastroenteritis symptoms between Oct 21 and Oct 23 after eating the caterer's food.
None of those affected was hospitalised. CDA and SFA are investigating, with MOE assisting. The caterer had been engaged by the Kindergarten Care (KCare) operator.
What this means for families at the two kindergartens
- The suspension took effect on Oct 27, and the KCare operator has arranged another food supplier for both kindergartens in the meantime.
- The kindergartens have stepped up hygiene measures, including thorough cleaning and disinfection of the affected areas.
- The authorities list vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain as symptoms of gastroenteritis; see a doctor if you are worried about your child.
If you have a food safety concern
- Report poor food safety practices to SFA through its online feedback form at www.sfa.gov.sg/feedback, as SFA invites the public to do.
Before Deli Hub Catering can resume, it must clean and sanitise its premises, and its food workers must pass a food safety course and test negative for food-borne pathogens.
