A real update

An Overview update produced by the same system from NEA data on Saturday 24 October at 1:26pm. In the group, updates go out at 7am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm and 9pm, and the other three topics (temperature, rain and thunder, air quality) follow with their own maps.

Map of Singapore by region: North, Central, West and South indoors; East with limits

🌤 Weather Overview · 1:26pm, Sat 24 Oct

  • • 🔴 Outdoors now: Indoors for now in North, Central, West and South · lightning decides
  • • By region: 🔴 North · 🟡 East · 🔴 Central · 🔴 West · 🔴 South
  • • Why: Hazy air at worst, in West (PM2.5 38–98) · not too hot (heat stress up to 31°C) · rain in North, East, Central, West and South · lightning near North, East, Central, West and South
  • • Better window: around 2pm today, when it's usually hazy air (PM2.5 about 83) → go, with limits.

"Usually" = this week's typical level at that hour. A rule of thumb, not NEA advice. Source: NEA / data.gov.sg.

What arrives, and when

At 7am, 12pm, 3pm, 6pm and 9pm, one post in each of four topics:

Overview

An outdoors call for each region (go out, with limits, indoors), why, and a better window if there is one.

Temperature

Now, the next two hours, heat stress (WBGT) and NEA's range for the day.

Rain & Thunder

Radar and rain gauges, lightning nearby, and NEA's own two-hour forecast.

Air quality

PM2.5 for the five regions, the wind and haze outlook, and the PSI.

PM2.5 or PSI: which number to look at

1-hour PM2.5

What the air is like right now. Use it for decisions about the next hour or two, like whether to head to the playground.

24-hour PSI

An average over the past day. Use it to plan the day, and to follow NEA's and MOE's haze advisories.

Neither number is a universal safe line for every child. If your child has asthma or another condition, follow your doctor's advice and NEA's health advisories.

How to read our calls

  • The region calls (go out, with limits, indoors) are Nueava's rule of thumb: the worst of air, heat, rain and lightning decides. They are not official NEA advice.
  • Our two-hour estimates for temperature and PM2.5 come from simple models tested on our own hourly records, and each post shows their typical error. Rain uses NEA's own two-hour forecast.
  • Every post shows the time of the readings. Data: NEA via data.gov.sg. Island-wide only: we never ask for your location.
