Residents across Singapore woke up to air quality in the good to moderate range on Oct 23. At 6am, PM2.5 readings were 18 in the north, 26 in the south, 27 in the east, 53 in the west and 29 in central Singapore, all within the normal range of 0 to 55.
The 24-hour PSI was 68 in the north and south, 71 in the east, 89 in the west and 79 in central. All regions have now been in the good to moderate range for at least 24 hours. The west only moved into it at 3pm on Oct 22. Unhealthy air quality, with 24-hour PSI above 101, had lasted since Oct 5.
What the readings mean for families this week
- In the good to moderate range, normal activities can be carried out by everyone, according to the report.
- NEA has forecast that air quality could worsen on Oct 23, with PSI levels ranging from 101 to 150.
- Smoke haze from Sumatra may drift towards Singapore on Oct 24, with rain expected to bring relief before clearer conditions return on Oct 25.
If the PSI goes above 101 again
- Start scaling down outdoor activities when the 24-hour PSI goes above 101; the report says this applies especially to children, the elderly and people with health issues.
NEA said showers are forecast over Singapore on Oct 23, but dry conditions are expected over southern Sumatra and Kalimantan. Under south-easterly winds, smoke haze may be carried towards Singapore.
